Police are investigating the spraying of graffiti with the word “HAMAS” on buildings near beaches in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Buildings, including public shelters, at Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi beaches were targeted overnight.

A member of the public sent photographs of the graffiti to 2GB’s Ben Fordham.

They told the Sydney radio station that it was horrible people thought it was okay to start writing the word Hamas, the name of the militant Islamic movement in the Middle East fighting a bitter war against Israel, everywhere.

Council rangers today taped over the graffiti and plan to paint over it.

Police officers patrolling the area discovered the graffiti at about 11pm yesterday.

Strike Force Cadomin has been set up to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
